Highlights
The Department of Environmental Quality has published a proposed Regulation under the Code of Virginia to:
- establish standards and procedures for the operation of solid waste management facilities in the Commonwealth
- to protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens
- improve standards for the operation of landfills to be more protective of human health and the environment
- make changes to the landfill siting criteria to update provisions related to setbacks and siting of solid waste facilities
- provide that only vegetative waste, clean wood, and clean paper products will be allowed to be open burned on private property
- clarify operational requirements applicable to non-landfill facilities and
- set out recordkeeping requirements.
