Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Act 2020

Highlight:

The Oireachtas has published the Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Covid-19) Act 2020 (the "Act").

The Act aims to mitigate the risk to human life, public health and the economic consequences posed by the spread of Covid-19 by, among other things:

-defining the emergency period as the period of 3 months from the commencement of the Act and allowing the government to extend this period as necessary
-prohibiting a landlord from serving a notice of termination in relation to the tenancy of a dwelling during the emergency period
-prohibiting rent increases
-providing special measures for the registration and re-registration of medical practitioners including dentists, doctors and nurses
-enabling the provision of a temporary wage subsidy to employees in businesses that have been so adversely affected by Covid-19 that the employer is unable to pay them their normal emoluments.

This notification has been included for information purposes only, despite the fact that it does not impose obligations on your organisation.
