The Minister for Health has issued regulations with effect from 24 August 2020 to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic that close the borders of Lesotho, require businesses to comply with certain restrictions and require people to stay at home and wear face masks when in public places.

Information on Self-Quarantine for COVID-19
Highlight:
The Health Education Division of Lesotho has issued guidelines to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic that explain that persons who have been to a COVID-19 affected country or have been in contact with a person who has COVID-19 infection must self-quarantine for 14 days at home even if they have no symptoms.

Interim Guidelines on the Use of Non-Medical Mask in Public Places

The Director General of Health Services of Lesotho has issued guidelines to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic that recommend the use of cloth face masks in public places where physical distancing is difficult to maintain and give directions for their use.

Public Health Act: Public Health (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020
Highlight:
The Minister for Health of Lesotho has issued regulations to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic with effect from 6 May 2020 that require all persons to remain at home except to acquire or provide essential services or attend a funeral or religious service, require employers to take steps to reduce transmission of COVID-19 among employees and customers and restrict transport capacity and alcohol sales.

Declaration of COVID-19 State of Emergency Notice, 2020
Highlight:
The Prime Minister of Lesotho has published the Declaration of COVID-19 State of Emergency Notice, 2020 (the "Declaration").
The Declaration provides that a state of emergency exists throughout the Kingdom of Lesotho in respect of the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
The State of emergency came into operation with effect from 18 March 2020 and amongst others:
-details which essential services shall continue to operate and which businesses shall remain closed
-prohibits all forms of activities and gatherings, except for funerals and
-states that all persons shall not be allowed to leave their places of residence, except in extreme circumstances.
