Public Health (Control of COVID-19) Rules, 2020

Highlight:

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Uganda has published the Public Health (Control of COVID-19) Rules, 2020 (the "Rules").

Amongst others, the Rules detail:

-the responsibility for certain persons to notify designated persons and/or authorities of COVID-19 cases
-powers of medical officers to, amongst others, search and disinfect premises
the limitation, prohibition and/or control of public gatherings and
-offences and penalties for non-compliance.

Public Health (Prevention of COVID - 19) (Requirements and Conditions of Entry into Uganda) Order, 2020

Highlight:

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Uganda has published the Public Health (Prevention of COVID - 19) (Requirements and Conditions of Entry into Uganda) Order, 2020 (the "Order").

Amongst others, the Order:

-provides for the requirement of a COVID-19 examination to be performed on any person arriving in Uganda
-states the powers of medical officers to, amongst others, isolate or quarantine certain persons and to disinfect vehicles, aircrafts or vessels and
-details offences and penalties for non-compliance therewith.

Public Health (Prohibition of Entry into Uganda) Order, 2020

Highlight:

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Uganda has published the Public Health (Prohibition of Entry into Uganda) Order, 2020 (the "Order").

Amongst others, the Order prohibits entry into Uganda at or through any of the Republic's border posts, with effect from 23 March 2020.

The exemptions / scope of the applicability of the Order have also been detailed therein. 

The Order came into force on 21 March 2020 and shall remain in force until 23 April 2020.

Public Health (Notification of COVID – 19) Order, 2020

Highlight:

The Minister of Health of the Republic of Uganda has published the Public Health (Notification of COVID – 19) Order, 2020 (the "Order").

Amongst others, the Order declared COVID – 19 to be a notifiable disease for the purposes of the Public Health Act, 1935.

It is also declared that Part IV of the Public Health Act (dealing with the Prevention and Suppression of Infectious Diseases) and Section 36 (dealing with the Power to Enforce Precautions at Boarders) of the Public Health Act, 1935 shall apply to COVID – 19.

This notification has been included for information purposes only, despite the fact that the Order may not impose obligations on your organisation.
