Amendment of Public Health Covid-19 General Regulations: Public and Environmental Health Act, 2015

The Minister of Health and Social Services has issued regulations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic that allow businesses to operate during their normal times of operation and allow tourists to enter Namibia without undergoing quarantine if they comply with certain requirements and submit for testing.

Public Health Covid-19 General Regulations: Public and Environmental Health Act, 2015

Highlight:

The Minister of Health and Social Services has issued regulations to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic that require all persons to wear face masks while in public places, prohibit gatherings of more than 50 people that are not for specified purposes and require other measures to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Commencement of Public and Environmental Health Act, 2015

State of Emergency - COVID-19 Regulations: Namibian Constitution

Highlight:

The President of Republic of Namibia has published the State of Emergency - COVID-19 Regulations: Namibian Constitution (the "Regulations").

The Regulations have been published subsequent to the President having declared that a State of Emergency exists in the whole of Namibia following a worldwide outbreak of COVID-19.

Amongst others, the Regulations:

-designate restricted areas in the Republic and a period of lockdown applying thereto
-state the closure period for schools and higher education institutions
-prohibit public gatherings; entry into Namibia; and certain travel within the Republic
-provide for the closure of certain businesses and
-detail offences and penalties for non-compliance.

This notification has been included for information purposes only, despite the fact that the regulation may not impose obligations on your organisation.

Declaration of State of Emergency - National Disaster (COVID-19): Namibian Constitution

Highlight:

The President of the Republic of Namibia has proclaimed a Declaration of State of Emergency - National Disaster (COVID-19): Namibian Constitution (the "Proclamation").

The Proclamation states that with effect from 17 March 2020, a State of Emergency exists in the whole of Namibia on account of the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID -19).
